Omaha, Nebraska document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Omaha, Nebraska, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those. Nebraska rules differ from Colorado's, Wyoming's and Utah's in several places, and we point those out.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Omaha Public Library

| Fax | Free: "Public fax machines are available at all locations and include faxing and scanning capabilities. This service is available at no cost" [2]. |
| Library card | Each library has at least one short-term computer you can use without a card, but you need a library card for the 60-minute stations and to print from library computers [1]. |
- Central Library: 7205 Dodge St, Omaha, NE 68114, (402) 444-4801. Mon–Thu 9 a.m.–8 p.m., Fri–Sun 9 a.m.–5 p.m. [4].
- Downtown Branch: 1401 Jones St., Omaha, NE 68102, (402) 444-4828. Mon–Thu 9 a.m.–8 p.m., Fri–Sat 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun 1–5 p.m. The branch lists a late opening (1 p.m.) on Friday, Nov. 13, 2026, and is closed Nov. 26–27, 2026 [5].
The UPS Store
The UPS Store #7773 at 321 S 17th St (ZIP 68102), (531) 352-2030, lists copies and documents, printing, notary, faxing and scanning, and shredding among its services, and says notary hours are "Available 7 Days." Its page lists hours of Mon–Fri 8 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sun 11 a.m.–4 p.m. The store is locally owned and operated [21]. We didn't find prices on its page.
See printing prices and fax prices.
Notary in Omaha
- Omaha Public Library: "No, Omaha Public Library does not have a notary on staff" [3].
- Douglas County Clerk of the District Court, in person: "Traditional in-person notary service is available at the Clerk of the District Court's office during regular business hours" [33]. The clerk's office is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. [8]. The page doesn't state a fee for in-person notary service, so we don't list one. The passport locator data also says "Notary and photocopies available" at the office, 1701 Farnam Street, Suite 300 [6].
- Douglas County Clerk of the District Court, remote online notary: by appointment only, Mon–Fri 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. The fee is $25.00 for the first notary signature (one document, one notary signature) and $10.00 for each additional notary signature. Payment is by credit card only, with a card processing fee of $2.50 on payments under $102 or 2.45% of the amount on payments over $102. Contact onlinenotary@douglascounty-ne.gov [33]. The county announced that the service launched Jan. 6, 2026 [34]. We didn't check which Nebraska law sets remote online notary fees. The statewide limits listed below come from 33-133, the in-person notary fee statute.
- Douglas County Clerk: we didn't find notary service mentioned on the County Clerk's marriage license pages [25][26].
- The UPS Store: the 321 S 17th St store lists notary service, available 7 days [21]. We didn't find its price.
- Nebraska fee limits (statewide): under Neb. Rev. Stat. 33-133, a notary may charge $5 for taking an acknowledgment, $5 for each certificate and seal, $2 for taking an affidavit and seal, and $2 for administering an oath or affirmation, plus mileage for serving notice. A state or local government employee may not charge these fees if the employer paid the notary's commission and bond fees [13]. Nebraska's caps are much lower than Utah's $10 per signature, Wyoming's $10 per notarial act and Colorado's $15 per document.
- Relatives (statewide): the Secretary of State says a Nebraska notary may not notarize a document signed by their parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, spouse, brothers or sisters, including in-laws, step and half relatives [15].
- Commissions (statewide): the Secretary of State commissions Nebraska notaries. Its online filing process for notary forms took effect November 20, 2023 [14].
- Banks (national policy): Bank of America says notary service is available "at no cost to our customers" and "in many of our financial centers." Schedule an appointment. All signers must be present [18]. For other banks, see free notary options.
Passports in Omaha
The U.S. Department of State's Passport Acceptance Facility Locator data lists three Omaha facilities [6]:
| Facility | Address and phone | Passport hours | Photos |
|---|---|---|---|
| Douglas County Clerk of the District Court | Hall of Justice, 1701 Farnam Street, Suite 300, Omaha, NE 68183. (402) 444-7018 | Mon–Fri 9 a.m.–4 p.m., appointments required (locator and court page) | $15 (court page) |
| Omaha Main Post Office | 1124 Pacific St., Omaha, NE 68108. (402) 348-2969 | Mon–Fri 9:15 a.m.–5:15 p.m., Sat 8–11:30 a.m.; schedule at usps.com/scheduler (locator) | Not listed |
| Postal Impressions (post office) | 5346 S. 136th St., Omaha, NE 68137. (531) 233-6975 | Mon–Fri 9:45 a.m.–6 p.m., Sat 9:15 a.m.–4:45 p.m.; schedule at usps.com/scheduler (locator) | Listed as on site |
- Court appointments: passport applications at the clerk's office are by appointment only, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. One appointment covers up to four family members. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, you may have to reschedule [7]. A county news post dated Oct. 21, 2025, says appointments are "highly recommended" and that "walk-ins will also be accepted as time and staffing allow" [32]. The current office page says service is by appointment only [7], so book an appointment.
- No adult renewals at the court: the clerk's office doesn't handle adult renewals, and every applicant must be present [7].
- State Department fees as the court lists them: for applicants 16 and older, the court's page lists $130.00 for a passport book, $30.00 for a passport card and $160.00 for both, or $190.00, $90.00 and $220.00 with expedited service, paid by check or money order to the U.S. Department of State [7]. These match the State Department fees on our passport checklist: $130, $30 and $160, plus $60 to expedite. The court's page also lists $23.36 under "Express Mail Return," marked "Book Only" and "1 – 2 Day Delivery" [7]. That amount is out of date. The State Department's current fee for 1-3 day return delivery is $26.87, for passport books only (it isn't offered for card-only applications), so pay the State Department's amount [35].
- Photos at the court: passport photos can be taken at the office during your appointment [7]. The county's Oct. 21, 2025 news post also says photos are "Available on site for $15" [32].
- How to pay at the court: the $35 acceptance fee and the $15 photo fee can be paid by cash or card. U.S. Department of State fees must be paid by check or money order [7].
- Clerk's office hours: the clerk's office is open 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but passport appointments run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. [7][8].
- Post office fees (national): a $35.00 acceptance fee and a $15.00 photo fee "if needed" [19].
- County Clerk: the locator data lists the Clerk of the District Court and two post offices in Omaha, not the County Clerk [6]. The County Clerk's own FAQ titled "Does the County Clerk/Comptroller's office issue passports?" showed no answer text when we read it [28], so we didn't find the County Clerk's answer.
- Difference from our Colorado, Wyoming and Utah guides: in Omaha the county passport counter is run by the Clerk of the District Court, the court's clerk, rather than a county clerk or city office.

Birth, death, marriage, court and recorded-document copies
Birth and death certificates: Douglas County Health Department
- Who issues them: the Douglas County Health Department issues certificates for births and deaths that happened in Douglas County. It doesn't issue them for adopted persons [10]. Like Colorado and Utah, and unlike Wyoming, Nebraska has a local counter as well as the state office.
- In person in Omaha: Omaha-Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street, Room H-01, 402-444-7204. Hours are 8 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you need help with an amendment, start by 3 p.m. [10].
- Fees: a birth certificate is $17.00 and a death certificate is $16.00. The department also takes online orders. By mail, send a check or money order payable to DCHD, a copy of your ID and a self-addressed stamped envelope [10].
Nebraska Office of Vital Records (statewide)
- Where: the office has moved to the Nebraska State Office Building, 301 Centennial Mall South, First Floor, Lincoln, NE. Phone (402) 471-2871, DHHS.VitalRecords@nebraska.gov [11][12].
- Fees: $17.00 for each birth certificate and $16.00 for each death, marriage or divorce certificate [12].
- How long: walk-in requests take a minimum of 30 minutes, regular mail a minimum of 15 days in-office processing, and online applications a minimum of 7 days. Expedited service is offered only on mail-in orders, with 1 to 2 days of in-office processing [12].
- How to pay: online applications may be charged to a Visa or MasterCard. Mail orders need a check or money order made out to "Vital Records" (no credit cards), sent to P.O. Box 95065, Lincoln, NE 68509-5065 [11][12].
- Rules: the office doesn't accept faxed or emailed applications. If a certificate isn't found, the search fee isn't refunded [11].
- Voter ID: if you don't have a current Nebraska driver's license or state ID card, you can ask for a no-fee certified birth certificate to get a state ID for voting. Say so on the application, apply in person or by mail, and bring proof of identity [11].
Court records: Douglas County Clerk of the District Court
- Copies of court documents (for example, a divorce decree) are requested by calling 402-444-7619. A regular copy is free by email or $10.00 mailed. A certified copy is $1.00 by email or $20.00 mailed. An authenticated copy is $20.00, paper only. Payment processing fees are extra and depend on how you pay [9].
- Timing: emailed copies take up to 3 business days. Mailed copies take up to 5 business days plus delivery, counted from when payment is received [9].
Marriage licenses and copies: Douglas County Clerk
- Where and when: Omaha-Douglas Civic Center, 1819 Farnam Street, H08 (Harney Street level), Omaha, NE 68183. Office hours are 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, and the office is open during the lunch hour. The clerk says it doesn't have any branch offices. Main line (402) 444-6767. Marriage licenses (402) 444-6080, marriage@douglascounty-ne.gov [24][26][27].
- Fees: a marriage license is $50.00, "payable by cash or credit card (additional portal fee applies for credit card use)." You can prepay $16.00 for a certified copy, which you need for name changes on a driver's license and Social Security records [25]. The clerk's fee list also shows a non-certified copy of a marriage license at $.25 each, a certified copy of a filing at $1.50 per page and non-certified copies of any record at $.25 per page [24]. The $50 and $16 fees match Neb. Rev. Stat. 33-110 as amended by Laws 2026, LB596, effective July 18, 2026 (statewide) [16].
- What to bring: proof of identity and age (driver's license, passport or certified birth certificate), Social Security numbers and parental information, including names, mother's maiden name and parents' birthplaces. If you were married before, bring the date the previous marriage ended [25].
- Age rules: anyone 19 or older may apply. Applicants who are 17 or 18 need a notarized consent form from a parent or legal guardian. If you're under 17, a license can't be issued in Nebraska [25][26].
- Other rules: the license is valid for one year from issuance anywhere in Nebraska. You need two witnesses when you get married. No blood test is required, and common law marriages can't be entered into in Nebraska. All marriage licenses are public records [25][26]. We didn't find a waiting period or an appointment requirement on the clerk's pages. That they aren't stated doesn't mean there are none, so call before you go.
- Copies later: fill out a request form and bring it to the office or mail it to Douglas County Clerk, 1819 Farnam St. H08, Omaha, NE 68183. Each certified copy is $16.00, and you need a clear photocopy of a valid ID. If you use the online request form, the office contacts you for payment. Records go back to 1856 [26].
- Difference from our other Nebraska guides: Douglas County takes cash or card for a marriage license. Sarpy County takes cards only, and Hall and Buffalo counties take cash only. See our Bellevue, Grand Island and Kearney guides.
Recorded documents: Douglas County Register of Deeds
- Where and when: 4th Floor, 1819 Farnam Street, Omaha, NE 68183, (402) 444-7159. Business hours are 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and filing hours are 8:00 a.m.–3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday [31].
- Fees: recording is $10.00 for the first page and $6.00 for each additional page, with no fee charged for lots or sections of land. Certified copies of recorded documents are $1.50 per page [29]. These match Neb. Rev. Stat. 33-109 (statewide) [17]. We didn't find the fee for plain (non-certified) copies. The office's FAQ page showed no readable text when we read it.
- How to pay: make payments to "Douglas County Assessor/Register of Deeds." Cash is accepted in person only (don't mail cash). Checks, money orders and Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards are accepted. "A 3.5% processing fee is added to all credit card transactions" [29].
- Documentary stamp tax: $3.32 per $1,000 of actual purchase price on transactions not exempt under state law. If the property transfers for nominal consideration, the tax is due on the assessed value [29][30]. The page gives two different effective dates. Its banner says "Effective July 18, 2026, the documentary stamp tax rate is $3.32/$1,000, and use of an updated Form 521 is required," while its fee table lists the $3.32 rate as "Effective Sep. 3, 2025" [29]. Check with the office if the date matters for your transfer.
- State copies (statewide): the Office of Vital Records also issues marriage and divorce certificates for $16.00 each [12].
More on certified copies: how to get a certified copy.
Money orders
USPS money order fees are national: $2.65 for $0.01 to $500.00, and $3.75 for $500.01 to $1,000.00. Pay with cash or a debit card, not a credit card. The limit is $1,000 per domestic money order [20]. We didn't find an Omaha government office that sells money orders. Other sellers: money order guide.
Shredding
- City and county: we didn't find an official City of Omaha or Douglas County shredding event on the pages we checked.
- The UPS Store: the 321 S 17th St store offers shredding through Iron Mountain, charged per pound after your documents are weighed [22]. We didn't find its price.
- Veridian Credit Union Community Shred Day: Veridian's free, public 2026 shred event in Omaha was Sept. 12, 2026, 9 a.m. to noon, at 810 N 96th St., with a limit of two containers of up to 25 pounds each [23]. That date has passed.
For paid per-pound shredding, see where to shred documents.
