Missoula, Montana document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Missoula, Montana, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Missoula Public Library
- Printing: the library offers web and email printing on Levels One and Three [9]. We didn't find a print price on that page.
- Copies: the passport locator lists the library with the note "Photocopy services available" [10]. We didn't find a copy price.
- Fax: we didn't find a fax service or price on the library pages we checked.
- Location: 455 E. Main St., Missoula, MT 59802, (406) 721-2665 [4].
The UPS Store
The UPS Store lists two Missoula stores. Each store page offers printing, shipping, shredding and mailbox services [11]:

- #4104, 400 West Broadway Ste 101, Missoula, MT 59802, (406) 542-3800. Store hours "Open 7 Days"; notary hours "Available 7 Days" [13].

Notary in Missoula
- Library: "MPL offers free notarization services to the public." Call ahead at 406-721-2665 or visit Level Three. The library can't provide witnesses or notarize I-9 forms [4].
- Vehicle titles (statewide): the library notes that, from Oct. 1, 2025, Montana motor vehicle title transfers no longer require notarization [4].
- The UPS Store: the 400 West Broadway store lists notary hours "Available 7 Days" [13]. We didn't find notary prices.
- Fees (statewide): Montana law lets a notary "charge a fee not to exceed $10 for each notarial act," such as an acknowledgment, a signature witnessing or a jurat. A notary may add a travel fee (no more than the IRS standard mileage rate) or a fee for an electronic or remote notarization only if the notary explains it's extra and not set by law and you agree to the amount in advance. A notary who charges fees must display a list of them in English [6]. That's the same $10 cap as Wyoming and Arizona and double North Dakota's $5.

Birth, death, marriage, court and recorded-document copies
Birth and death certificates: Missoula County Clerk & Recorder
- How: request online, by mail with the county's printable form, or in person [1].
- Price: we didn't find a price on the county page. State law sets the county fee at $8 for a certified birth certificate and $7 for a certified death certificate [7].
- Outage dates differ: on Oct. 29, 2026, the county page still said it could issue birth certificates only for people born in Missoula County during state maintenance, and that statewide issuance would resume Oct. 28 [1]. The state notice gives Oct. 26 [16]. Call before you go.
Birth and death certificates (statewide)
- Any county office (statewide): you can buy a Montana birth or death certificate in person at any county Clerk & Recorder's office in Montana, no matter which county the event happened in. Bring a current photo ID; you fill out the application there. A long-form birth certificate (often needed for dual citizenship or tribal enrollment) comes only from the state office in Helena or the Clerk & Recorder in the county of birth [8].
- County price (statewide law): state law sets the county clerk's fee at $8 for each certified copy of a birth certificate and $7 for each certified copy of a death certificate [7].
- State price: the Office of Vital Records charges $16 for every certificate, birth or death, certified or informational, abstract or long form [8][16]. Its fee schedule took effect Sept. 21, 2024 [16].
- State office (Helena): order by mail to Montana Vital Records, PO Box 4210, Helena, MT 59604, with a check or money order and a copy of your ID or a notarized application; online or by phone through VitalChek (1-888-877-1946) or VRO, which add card service fees. The office is closed to walk-ins. Questions: (406) 444-2685, option 2, or HHSVitalRecords@mt.gov [8].
- Late-October outage: the state notice says no Montana office issued birth certificates Oct. 21–25, 2026, during a move to a new records platform, and statewide issuance resumed Monday, Oct. 26 [16].
Marriage licenses: Missoula County Clerk of District Court
- How: apply online first, then both of you appear in person at the Clerk of District Court, 2nd floor of the Missoula County Courthouse, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday [2].
- Fee and payment: $53, by cash, money order or card (a card fee of 1.995% plus $1.25 applies). Personal checks aren't accepted [2].
- Validity: 180 days, in Montana only [2].
- License fee (statewide law): $53 when one or both of you are present at the ceremony, or $83 when neither is (a double proxy) [17]. Marriage licenses come from the Clerk of District Court in Montana, not the Clerk & Recorder.
- Proof of age (statewide law): each applicant must provide a birth certificate or other satisfactory evidence of age [18].
Recorded documents: Missoula County Clerk & Recorder
- Copies (statewide law): county clerk copy fees are 50 cents for the first page of a document and 25 cents for each later page, plus $2 for each certification with seal [7].
- Recording fees: we didn't find a Missoula County recording fee page in our checks.
Court records: Clerk of District Court
- Fees (statewide law): the clerk of district court charges $1 a page for the first 10 pages of copies from a file, for each request, and 50 cents for each additional page; 25 cents a page for copies sent by fax, email or other electronic means; $2 for each certificate with seal; $5 for a copy of a marriage license and $10 for a copy of a dissolution decree. A records search is $2 per name for each year, for up to 7 years, and $1 per name for each further year [17].
Apostilles (statewide)
Montana apostilles come from the Secretary of State in Helena, not the county. For a Montana birth or death certificate, note on your Vital Records application that it's for an apostille (you'll get a long form), and contact the Secretary of State's office to tell it the document is coming. Pay the Secretary of State $10.00 per apostille, separately from the Vital Records fee [3]. Vital Records will mail the certificate to the Secretary of State once it's issued; the Secretary of State's office is at (406) 444-1877 [8]. The Secretary of State charges $10 per document or notarization, regardless of the number of pages. You can submit online through its portal and pay by credit or debit card, or by mail or in person with its printed Certification Request Form and a check or money order; it can't accept cash. Normal processing is 3–5 business days from receipt, and we didn't find an expedite fee. Mail goes to the Notary & Certifications Division, PO Box 202801, Helena, MT 59620-2801; drop-offs go to Room 260 of the State Capitol. A free pre-check is available by email at sosnotary@mt.gov [20]. See the apostille guide.

USPS money order fees are national: $2.65 for $0.01 to $500.00, and $3.75 for $500.01 to $1,000.00. Pay with cash or a debit card, not a credit card. The limit is $1,000 per domestic money order [19]. Other sellers: money order guide.
