Louisville, Kentucky document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Louisville, Kentucky, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL)
- Copying and printing: LFPL says it charges for printing and copying. It lists black-and-white copies at 5¢ each and color copies at 50¢ each, per side [1]. We didn't find a separate printing price on that page.
- Fax: LFPL says faxing is free [1]. We didn't find a scanning price.
- Paying: cash, credit or debit, Apple Pay and Google Pay. A print job over $5 has to be split into jobs of $5 or less. Paying by card puts a temporary $5 hold on it; the unused balance is refunded, which may take 24 to 72 hours [1].
- Mobile printing: send a job from the Princh app, upload it from a computer or phone, or email it to the library's print system, and pick it up at the branch you choose [1].
- Main Library: 301 York St. LFPL lists it as closed for renovations; branch hours are on LFPL's home page [8].
- The UPS Store: it lists 16 open locations in Louisville, plus one marked Coming Soon. Its city page says its stores offer packing, shipping, printing, shredding, notarizing, faxing and mailbox services [9]. We didn't find prices on the store pages; The UPS Store's site says products, services, prices and hours may vary by location [10]. The Census Geocoder places 10 of the 16 inside Louisville Metro; the other 6 have Louisville mailing addresses but are in St. Matthews (2), Jeffersontown (2), Northfield and Middletown [9][4].
See printing prices and fax prices.
Notary in Louisville
- Jefferson County Clerk: its fee page says the notary fee within the Clerk's office is $2 a signature [2]. Jefferson County Clerk, 527 W. Jefferson St., (502) 574-5700 [2]. The Census Geocoder places it in Louisville [4]. We didn't find the office's hours on the pages we read.
- Passport Place at the University of Louisville: the State Department's locator note for it reads "Notary" [3]. We didn't find details or prices.
- The UPS Store: its Louisville page lists notarizing [9].
- Becoming a notary in Jefferson County: send the $10 application to the Secretary of State. After approval and after you get a bond, bring proof of bonding, a photo ID and the $19 recording fee to the Clerk's Professional License Department, Metro Hall, 527 W. Jefferson St., Room 100A, 502-574-5884, which completes your commission and records your bond [11][2].
- How notaries are commissioned (statewide): in Kentucky you apply to the Secretary of State; the application fee is $10 [12][13]. You must live, work or practice in the county where you apply. Within 30 days of receiving the commission, you appear in person before that county clerk to take the oath, file a $1,000 surety bond and file the commission, and you pay the clerk's filing fees. A term is four years [14].
- Fees (statewide law): under KRS 423.430, a notary may charge a fee that has been "clearly disclosed to the person requesting the service in advance," in line with KRS 64.300 [13]. KRS 64.300 bars any fee for notarizing papers filed to claim federal benefits for a person who served in the U.S. armed forces, the National Guard or a reserve component, or their dependents [15]. We didn't find a fixed maximum in the statute, so ask for the price before the notary starts.

- Phone numbers (two official pages differ): the OVS home page calls (800) 241-8322 "our toll-free number" [20], while the OVS order guide lists that number for VitalChek credit card orders [5]. The Secretary of State lists (502) 564-4212 for OVS [21]. Call to confirm which line handles your question.
- Louisville Metro Public Health and Wellness: we couldn't read its birth and death records page on Oct 31, 2026, because the site blocked our check, so we didn't find whether it issues certificates in Louisville or what it charges. Use the state office above, or check with the department.
Marriage licenses
- Who issues licenses (statewide): in Kentucky, marriage licenses come from county clerks. State law sets the clerk's fee for "Marriage license, indexing, recording, and issuing certificate thereof" at $26.50 [22]; the county prices below are the totals the clerks list.
- Marriage certificate copies (statewide): $6.00 from the Office of Vital Statistics [5].
- Jefferson County Clerk: $60 (it was $50 before June 27, 2025). It takes cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard and Discover [6][2].
- Where and how: apply in person at any of the Clerk's 7 branch locations, or at the Professional License Department, Metro Hall, 527 W. Jefferson St., Room 100A. Bring a driver's license, current state photo ID or passport. Both of you must be 18 or older. There's no waiting period or blood test. The license is good for 30 days, counting the day it's issued, and only in Kentucky; at least two witnesses must be at the ceremony. Questions: 502.574.5884 [6].
- Copies of a Jefferson County marriage license: $5 in person or $6 by mail [6].
Recorded documents (deeds and other land records)
- Jefferson County Clerk: recording a deed is $50, a power of attorney $50 and a mortgage $80; the Clerk says these fees follow KRS 64.012 as amended by Senate Bill 114 [2]. Each extra book or reference added to a document is $4 more, and since Sept. 1, 2026, mailed instruments carry an extra $1 for postage [2].
- Certified copies: $5 for the first 3 pages and 50¢ for each additional page per document [2].
- Plain copies (two lines on the same page differ): the Clerk's fee page lists a regular copy at $2 for 3 pages and 25¢ a page over 3, and also says customer service copies are 50¢ a page [2]. Ask the Clerk which price applies to your copy.
Court records
- How to ask (statewide): the Kentucky Court of Justice says requests for court case copies start with the clerk of the court that heard the case; for Circuit, District, Family and Business Court cases, that's the Office of Circuit Court Clerk in the county [23].
- Circuit Court Clerk fees (statewide manual): the Administrative Office of the Courts' accounting manual lists $5.00 for preparing a certification, $0.50 for an attestation and $0.25 a page for a copy [24].

It says "Copies and certifications of cases are available upon request" and to contact the department for details. It takes cash, credit or debit cards, cashier's or certified checks (no personal checks) and money orders, payable to the Office of the Circuit Court Clerk [25]. Its request form lets you ask for certification and for delivery in person, by mail or by email [26]. We didn't find its per-page or certification prices; see the statewide manual above.
- Court video: the Audio/Video Division, 502-595-3606, sells DVD copies of Circuit, Family and District court proceedings at $25 each; requests are usually done 2 to 4 business days after payment [25].
- Location check: the Census Geocoder places the Hall of Justice and the Old Jail Building in Louisville [4].
Apostilles (statewide)
- Fee (statewide): $5 per document from the Kentucky Secretary of State, by check payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer for mail requests [21][27][13].
- Steps (statewide): for a paper document, have it notarized by a Kentucky notary, then have the County Clerk where the notary is registered certify the notary's signature. County Clerk records must be signed by a current County Clerk or Deputy Clerk. Circuit Court records go to the County Clerk first to certify the Circuit Clerk's signature. Birth, marriage, divorce and single status certificates must carry the current State Registrar's signature [21].
- Where (statewide): by mail with the request form to P.O. Box 718, Frankfort, KY 40602; mail requests are done within 3 business days and returned by First-Class Mail, or include a prepaid FedEx, UPS or USPS Priority label for tracking. Walk-in at 1025 Capital Center Drive, Suite 201, Frankfort, Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., done while you wait. The e-Apostille option isn't available for vital records. Phone (502) 564-3490 [21][27].
- Jefferson County step: for a paper document notarized by a Kentucky notary, the notary's signature must first be certified by the County Clerk where the notary is registered, which for a Jefferson County notary is the Jefferson County Clerk [21]. We didn't find the Clerk's price for that certification.
More on certified copies: how to get a certified copy.
Money orders
USPS money order fees are national: $2.65 for $0.01 to $500.00, and $3.75 for $500.01 to $1,000.00. Pay with cash or a debit card, not a credit card. The limit is $1,000 per domestic money order [28]. Other sellers: money order guide.
