Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
- Where and when: 1515 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. Open Mon–Fri 9 a.m.–9 p.m., Sat 9 a.m.–6 p.m. and Sun noon–9 p.m. [2].
- Printing: 2 free pages a day, then 10 cents a page in black and white and 50 cents in color. All printing is single-sided on standard white paper; you can't add your own paper. A large-format printer in the Level 2 Tech Center costs $2.00 per linear foot [1].
- From your phone or laptop: the SmartALEC service prints uploads, email attachments and web pages. Uploads last 7 days or until printed [1].
- Copies: 10 cents black and white and 50 cents color. Copiers take letter, legal or 11x17 paper and can copy double-sided [1].
- Paying: prints and copies are paid from your library card account. Add money online with a credit card, or at a checkout kiosk with cash or a credit card [1].
- Fax: self-service faxing is free for local, toll-free and long-distance numbers, at machines near the Customer Service Desk. The library doesn't accept incoming faxes [1].
- Scanning: scan to a USB drive at the copiers, or use the flatbed scanners in the Level 2 Tech Center [1]. We didn't find a scanning charge.
The UPS Store
The UPS Store #3349, 4011 SW 29th St, Topeka, (785) 271-6245, lists fax, notary and shredding services. Its page lists hours of Mon–Fri 8 a.m.–7 p.m. and Sat 10 a.m.–4 p.m., with Sunday closed [16]. It's the only Topeka store on the company's list. We didn't find prices on its page.

Notary in Topeka
- Library (free): free notary service by appointment, Mon–Fri 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and Sat 3–4:30 p.m. Book online or call (785) 580-4400. Bring government-issued original ID (current or expired within the last 3 years) and unsigned documents. Bring your own witnesses if needed. The appointment is cancelled if you're 15 minutes late. Library notaries can't notarize I-9 forms and only notarize English-language documents [3].
- The UPS Store: the 4011 SW 29th St store lists notary service [16]. We didn't find its notary hours or price.
- Fees (statewide): the Kansas Secretary of State says "State law does not prohibit a notary from charging a fee for a notarial act." We didn't find a dollar limit in its notary page or handbook. Under K.A.R. 7-43-16 a fee must be disclosed to you and agreed to before the notarization, you must be told that the fee is permitted but not required by state law, and it must be collected at the time and recorded in the notary's journal [12][13]. Other states we cover set dollar caps instead: Nebraska's $5 acknowledgment cap, Utah's $10 per signature, Wyoming's $10 per notarial act and Colorado's $15 per document. Ask the price before you start.
- Spouses (statewide): a Kansas notary may not notarize a record in which the notary or the notary's spouse is a party or has a direct financial or beneficial interest [12][13]. We didn't find a broader Kansas rule on other relatives on the pages we checked.
- ID and journal (statewide): a notary may accept a driver's license, passport or other government ID that expired not more than three years before the notarization, and since January 1, 2022 Kansas notaries must keep a journal [12].
- Banks (national policy): Bank of America says notary service is available "at no cost to our customers" and "in many of our financial centers." Schedule an appointment. All signers must be present [14]. We didn't check which Topeka branches offer it. For other banks, see free notary options.
