Minneapolis, Minnesota document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Minneapolis, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax

- Fax: free at all Hennepin County libraries, with a request to limit faxing to 25 pages a month. You can send faxes but not receive them [4].
- The UPS Store: it lists 4 locations in Minneapolis: 40 S 7th St, Ste. 212, (612) 332-4117; 2801 Hennepin Ave S, (612) 822-0022; 3109 W 50th St, (612) 925-0555; and 1730 New Brighton Blvd, #104, (612) 789-6904. Its city page says they offer packing, shipping, printing, shredding, notarizing, faxing and mailbox services [9]. We didn't find prices on the store pages; The UPS Store's site says products, services, prices and hours may vary by location [10].

Notary in Minneapolis
- Hennepin County service centers ($5): notaries are at all 7 licensing service center locations, $5 per notarization. Sign the document in front of the notary and bring photo ID. Schedule an appointment or walk in; wait times depend on staffing. The county won't notarize a last will and testament, I-9 forms, or birth, death or marriage certificates. Questions: 612-348-8240 [5].
- Where the service centers are: Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Suite A-025; Midtown Exchange, 2929 Chicago Avenue South, Lower Level; and North Minneapolis, 1001 Plymouth Avenue North, are in Minneapolis. The others are in Brooklyn Center, Maple Grove, Minnetonka (Ridgedale) and Edina (Southdale). All are open Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; appointments can't be booked more than four weeks ahead. Cards add a 2.49% charge for non-DVS services [2].
- Library: we didn't find notary service on the Hennepin County Library page we checked [4].
- The UPS Store: its Minneapolis page lists notarizing [9]. We didn't find store notary prices; the Minnesota maximums are below.
- Fee limits (statewide): Minn. Stat. § 357.17 sets "the maximum fees to be charged and collected by a notary public": $5 for each protest and copy, $5 for making and serving each notice of nonpayment or nonacceptance, $5 per folio for "any affidavit or paper for which provision is not made herein" and $1 per folio for copies, $5 for each oath administered, and for acknowledgments of deeds and other services, "the legal fees allowed other officers for like services" [11]. Offices often post a flat price per signature or stamp; the local prices above are what each office lists.
- Remote online notarization (statewide): Minn. Stat. § 358.645, subd. 3(c), lets a remote online notary charge up to $25 for a remote online notarial act "if the act occurs before January 1, 2023" [12]. We didn't find a current remote fee in the statute, and the Secretary of State's notary pages didn't load for us on Oct 30, 2026, so ask the notary what it charges.

Birth, death, marriage, court and recorded-document copies
Birth and death certificates: Minnesota Department of Health (statewide)
- State fees (statewide): the Minnesota Department of Health fee table lists a certified birth certificate at $26, with additional copies of the same certificate ordered at the same time $19 each; a noncertified (informational) birth record at $13, plus $6 for each additional copy; a certified death certificate at $13, plus $6 for each additional copy; a noncertified death record at $13, plus $6; and a verification of birth at $9. A birth certificate for a homeless youth or for the Veterans Administration, and a death certificate for the VA, are $0. Optional rush processing is $20 and rush shipping $21. The table marks these as available at "All vital records offices" [16].
- In state law (statewide): Minn. Stat. § 144.226 sets the vital record fees. It waives the certified birth record fee for a homeless youth (subd. 8) and lets the state registrar and its agents charge a convenience fee of up to three percent for electronic, telephone or internet transactions (subd. 7) [17].
Birth and death certificates: Hennepin County
- Birth fees: for any birth in Minnesota, a certified copy is $26 (each extra $19) and a non-certified copy $13; non-certified copies can't be used for legal purposes. A verification of birth is $9 [7].
- Death fees: a certified copy is $13 (each extra $6) and a non-certified copy $13, for deaths in Hennepin County from 1870 and in any Minnesota county from 1997 [18].
- How: in person at a service center, where most copies are issued the same day; or by mail, drop-off or fax. Mailed requests for certified copies must be notarized (e-notarization is OK). Faster processing (ready within 1 week) is $20 extra; applying by fax is $9.50 extra. Phone 612-348-8919 [7][18].
Marriage licenses: Hennepin County
- Fee: $125, or $50 if you've completed 12 hours of premarital education and submit the educator's statement. Fees are non-refundable. The license is valid for 6 months, and you must be at least 18 at the time of the wedding [8].
- How: both of you at a service center; one of you, with a notarized party-not-appearing form for the other; or nobody in person, by mailing the application, notarized supplemental forms, proof of age and a check or money order to Director of Licensing – Remote Marriage, 300 South 6th Street, MC 678-B, Minneapolis, MN 55487-0678 [8].
- Fee and premarital education discount (sources differ): Minn. Stat. § 517.08, subd. 1b, says the local registrar collects $125 for a civil marriage license, and that the fee "for parties who have completed at least 12 hours of premarital education is $50." To get the reduced fee, you bring a statement from the educator, on letterhead, "signed, dated, and notarized or marked with a church seal." The educator must be a licensed or ordained minister or the minister's designee, a person authorized to solemnize marriages, or a licensed marriage and family therapist. Subdivision 1c(b) of the same section refers to "the $40 fee under subdivision 1b, paragraph (b)" [19]. We don't say which number governs; the county notes above give the county's own figures.
- Term and oath (statewide): the license is valid for six months. If you can't use it within that time "due to illness or other extenuating circumstances," you can surrender it and get a new one "without fee." The registrar may take your oath in person, by telephone, by web conference or by a verified statement signed by both of you, and may accept applications by mail, fax or electronic filing [19]. Each county decides which of these it offers; see the county notes above. We didn't find a waiting period in § 517.08.

- District court copies (statewide): Minn. Stat. § 357.021, subd. 2, sets the court administrator's fee for a "certified copy of any instrument from a civil or criminal proceeding" at $14, and says "No fee may be charged to view or download a publicly available instrument from a civil or criminal proceeding or for an uncertified copy of that instrument" [22]. The Minnesota Judicial Branch says court users who can't afford a fee can ask to have it reduced or waived; its district court fees by county sit behind a button we couldn't read on Oct 30, 2026 [23].
