Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Milwaukee Public Library (MPL)
- Where: MPL says printing, copying, scanning and fax are offered at all branch locations [1]. The Central Library is at 814 W. Wisconsin Ave. [1], and the Census Geocoder places it inside Milwaukee city [3].
- Printing and copying: black and white is $0.15 a page ($0.30 double-sided) and color is $0.50 a page ($1.00 double-sided). Pay with cash, coins or a credit or debit card at the print kiosk; card transactions may carry convenience fees [1].
- Print from your phone or laptop: MPL uses ePRINTit. Email a file to BW@MPL.ORG for black and white or COLOR@MPL.ORG for color, or use the ePRINTit portal or ePRINTit SaaS app, then release the job at a kiosk. Submitted files are deleted after 24 hours [1].
- Scanning: free. Scan up to 40 pages a minute to a flash drive, a Google documents folder or email, as PDF, Word or JPEG files [1].
- Fax: outgoing only; incoming faxes aren't permitted. In the U.S. it's $1.75 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page; international is $3.95 and $3.45. You can check or resend a fax at faxscan24.com [1].
- How to pay for fax: the page's summary says fax works with "a credit card, debit card, or check card", but the fax section says the service is "credit card only" (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover). Confirm with the library [1].
- The UPS Store: it lists 3 locations with Milwaukee addresses: 1345 N Jefferson St, (414) 273-7780; 1314 S 1st St, (414) 897-7713; and 3900 W Brown Deer Rd, Ste. A, (414) 354-3393. Its city page says they offer packing, shipping, printing, shredding, notarizing, faxing and mailbox services [8]. We didn't find prices on the store pages; The UPS Store's site says products, services, prices and hours may vary by location [9].
- Inside the city: the Census Geocoder places 1345 N Jefferson St and 1314 S 1st St inside Milwaukee city, and places 3900 W Brown Deer Rd in the village of Brown Deer [8][3].

Notary in Milwaukee
- Library: we didn't find notary service on MPL's print, scan and fax page [1].
- City Health Department: its birth and death certificate page says its notary services are temporarily unavailable [10].
- The UPS Store: its Milwaukee page lists notarizing [8].
- Fees (statewide): Wisconsin's Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) says a notary "may charge no more than $5 for most in-person notarial acts." Ask for the price before the notary starts [11].
- Statewide commission: DFI says a Wisconsin commission lets a notary act in all counties in the state [11].
- No copies of vital records (statewide): DFI tells notaries they are "strictly prohibited" from making copies, certified or uncertified, of birth, death, divorce, marriage and other vital records. Get certified copies from a state or county vital records office instead [11].

The locator and the county page list different closing times, so confirm with the office.
- Milwaukee County Clerk, fees: the county charges a $35 processing fee per application, paid separately from the State Department fee. Passport photos are $17, and the office doesn't process renewals [12].

Birth, death, marriage, court and recorded-document copies
Birth, death, marriage and divorce records (statewide rules)
- Who issues them (statewide): the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) says Wisconsin birth, death, marriage and divorce records from October 1907 to now are available from the Wisconsin Vital Records Office, and also through any Wisconsin county Register of Deeds office. Availability depends on the event type and date [4].
- Fees (statewide): $20 for the first copy of each record and $3 for each additional copy of the same record [4]. State law sets the same $20 and $3 fees [15]. DHS says the long form birth certificate doesn't cost extra; write "Long Form" on the application [4].
- Who can get a certified copy: state law limits who can get one; an uncertified copy is printed on plain paper and stamped as not usable for legal or identification purposes [4].
- State office by mail: Wisconsin Vital Records Office, PO Box 309, Madison, WI 53701. It takes about 10 business days after the office gets your order, plus mail time. Pay by cash, check or money order in U.S. funds [4].
- Online and phone: through VitalChek, online or at 877-885-2981; there is a fee for using VitalChek, and requests take about five business days [4].
- Milwaukee City Health Office: DHS says that for Wisconsin birth and death records you can also contact the Milwaukee City Health Office [4], one of two city health offices that act as local vital records offices [16]. The Health Department's office is in the Zeidler Municipal Building, 841 N. Broadway, Room 115, 414-286-3503. It's open Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Birth and death certificates are $20 for the first copy and $3 for each additional copy of the same record issued at the same time [10][17].
- Milwaukee County Register of Deeds: county Register of Deeds offices also issue Wisconsin vital records [4]. Milwaukee County's vital records office is in Room G6, 901 N. 9th St., open Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., (414) 278-4027. Records are $20 for the first copy and $3 for each additional copy, plus a $3 service fee for in-person orders. Orders received by 2 p.m. are ready the same day [5]. The main Register of Deeds office is in Room 103, (414) 278-4021, open Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. [18].
Marriage licenses
- Marriage licenses (statewide law): in Wisconsin the county clerk issues marriage licenses. A license can't be issued within 3 days of the application unless the clerk, at its discretion, issues it sooner for an added fee of up to $25. Each applicant must show a certified copy of a birth record, or one of the other documents the law allows, and swear to the application before the clerk. State law sets the county clerk's fee for each license at $49.50; that is the statutory clerk fee, not necessarily the full price a county charges [19].
- Milwaukee County Clerk, fee: the license is $120, paid in cash or by card (cards carry a 3% fee). Personal checks aren't accepted. There's a 4-day waiting period, which can be waived for $25, and the license is valid for 60 days [6].
- Milwaukee County Clerk, how to apply: by appointment only, booked through the county's Booking Calendar; the page says up to 30 days before the wedding. Both of you apply together in person. The office is in the Courthouse, Room 105, 901 N. 9th St., Milwaukee 53233, (414) 278-4067, open Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. [6].
Recorded documents and court copies
- Recording fees (statewide law): Wisconsin law sets the register of deeds fee for recording a document at $30. Copies of recorded documents are $2 for the first page and $1 for each additional page, plus $1 to certify a copy [20].
- Court copies (statewide fee table): the Wisconsin court system lists Clerk of Circuit Court copies at $1.25 a page, and certified copies at $5 to certify the document plus $1.25 a page [21].
- Milwaukee County Register of Deeds, recording: recording is $30 per document. A subdivision plat is $50, a condominium plat is $100 for review plus $50, and a DOT plat is $25 [22].
- Milwaukee County Register of Deeds, copies: copies are $2 for the first page and $1 for each additional page, plus $1 per document to certify. There's a $10 search fee if you don't have the document number. Card payments carry a fee of $2.50 or 3%, whichever is greater [23].
- Clerk of Circuit Court: we didn't find Milwaukee County's court copy fees.
Apostilles (statewide)
- Two state offices: both the Wisconsin Secretary of State (SOS) and DFI can issue apostilles for Hague Convention countries. Authentications for countries outside the Hague Convention come only from the SOS [24].
- DFI: standard service is $10 per document (3–7 business days) and expedited is $35 per document (1–2 business days), not counting mail time. DFI, 4822 Madison Yards Way, North Tower, Madison, WI 53705; (608) 266-8915 [25].
- Secretary of State: standard service is $10 per document (an estimated 7–20 days from when the office gets the documents) and expedited is $35 per document (2–4 business days). Walk-in expedited service is generally available the same day at the office on the basement level of the State Capitol in Madison. It accepts card, cash, check or money order [24].
- Notarized documents: the SOS accepts only wet-ink stamped or embossed notarizations by a Wisconsin notary, not electronic ones. It can't process federal documents or vital records from another state or country [24].
More on certified copies: how to get a certified copy.
Money orders
USPS money order fees are national: $2.65 for $0.01 to $500.00, and $3.75 for $500.01 to $1,000.00. Pay with cash or a debit card, not a credit card. The limit is $1,000 per domestic money order [26]. Other sellers: money order guide.
Shredding
- Free shred events: we didn't find an upcoming city or county shred event on official pages.
- City Drop Off Centers, no shredding: the City of Milwaukee's Drop Off Centers at 6660 Industrial Rd and 3879 W. Lincoln Ave take paper for recycling at no charge, but they don't offer shredding. They're for city residents and property owners with photo ID. Summer-season hours, through Nov 28, 2026, are Tuesday–Sunday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. [27].
- The UPS Store: its Milwaukee page lists shredding [8]. We didn't find prices.
