Hattiesburg, Mississippi document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
The Library of Hattiesburg, Petal & Forrest County
- Prices: 20¢ a page for black-and-white printing, $1.00 a page for color, 20¢ a page for copies and $2.00 a page for faxing. Scanning to email is free. Payment is cash or check only [1].
- Printing: you can print from any public computer. To print from your phone, email your documents to the library and staff will print them when you arrive. Homework assignments can get a limited amount of free printing [1].
- Hattiesburg Library: 329 Hardy Street, 601.582.4461 [8]. The Census Geocoder places it inside Hattiesburg city in Forrest County [9]. An hours graphic on the library's home page lists the building as open Monday–Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the computer lab closes 15 minutes earlier. The graphic doesn't list Sunday hours [8].
- The UPS Store: it lists 2 locations in Hattiesburg: 6068 US Hwy 98 W, Ste. 1, (601) 261-0068, and 5891 Hwy 49, Ste. 60, (601) 450-0068. Its city page says its stores offer packing, shipping, printing, shredding, notarizing, faxing and mailbox services [10]. The Census Geocoder places the US 98 store inside Hattiesburg city, in the Lamar County part; it didn't match the Hwy 49 address, so we haven't confirmed that one is inside city limits [9]. We didn't find prices on the store pages; The UPS Store's site says products, services, prices and hours may vary by location [11].

Notary in Hattiesburg
- Forrest County Chancery Clerk: the clerk's page says the Chancery Clerk serves as the county notary; 641 Main St., (601) 545-6041 [2]. The passport locator also lists notary services at this office [3]. Forrest County's posted recording-fee sheet lists a notary fee of $5.00 per signature [12].
- City Clerk: the Hattiesburg City Clerk's page doesn't mention notary service [13].
- Library: we didn't find a notary service on the library's pages.
- The UPS Store: its Hattiesburg page lists notarizing [10].
- Fees (statewide law): Mississippi law says a notarial officer may charge up to $5.00 for services [14]. The Secretary of State's notary rules set the same $5.00 maximum per signature for acknowledgments, jurats and signature witnessings, and say "A notary public need not charge for notarial acts." A notary may add a travel fee under set conditions, an employer may bar fees on work time, and the fee is waived for an absentee voter application or ballot [15]. Ask for the price before the notary starts.
- Proposed change (not in effect as far as we found): a proposed-rule filing on the Secretary of State's site would raise the maximum to $10.00 for most notarial acts ($5.00 for certifying an electronic document) and allow up to $25.00 for an electronic notarization [16]. We didn't find that it has been adopted; the current rules above still list $5.00 [15]. Confirm with the notary or the Secretary of State's Notary Division, 601-359-1615 [17].
Passports in Hattiesburg
The U.S. Department of State's Passport Acceptance Facility Locator data lists 2 facilities in Hattiesburg. The Census Geocoder places both inside Hattiesburg city in Forrest County [3][9]:
| Facility | Address and phone | Passport hours (locator) | Photos |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forrest County Chancery Clerk | 641 N. Main St., Hattiesburg, MS 39401. 601-545-6014 | Tue–Fri 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (Monday listed as "0–0") | Not listed |
| Hattiesburg General Mail Facility (USPS) | 220 S. 40th Ave., Hattiesburg, MS 39402. 601-271-7000 | Mon–Fri 9:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.; Sat 10 a.m.–1 p.m. | Listed as on site |
- Forrest County Chancery Clerk: the locator's Monday entry reads "0–0," so we can't tell whether Monday applications are taken [3]. The records portal lists office hours of Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. [18]. Call the passport line at (601) 545-6046 before you go [2].
- Photos at the Chancery Clerk: sources disagree. The locator doesn't flag photos as available, but its note for the office lists "PHOTO SERVICES" [3]. Ask when you call. We didn't find the clerk's photo or execution fee on the county's pages.
- Post office: the locator lists the Hattiesburg General Mail Facility and says to book passport appointments, or see more passport times, at usps.com/scheduler [3].
- Post office fees (national): a $35.00 acceptance fee and a $15.00 photo fee "if needed" [19].
- Faster return delivery (national): two official pages list different prices. USPS lists "$22.05—1- to 3- day delivery service for faster return shipping to you from the State Department" [19]. The State Department's fee page lists 1–3 business day return delivery at $26.87, for passport books only [20]. We couldn't re-read the State Department page on Oct 31, 2026, because it blocked our check. Confirm the fee with the acceptance facility before you pay.

Birth, death, marriage, court and recorded-document copies
Birth, death and marriage certificates (statewide)
- Who issues them (statewide): in Mississippi, certified birth and death certificates come from the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) Vital Records office, not from a county office. MSDH's rules make the state the sole registration district [21]. MSDH holds birth and death records from November 1912 on [22].
- Fees (statewide): birth, death and marriage certificates are $17; additional copies of the same record ordered at the same time are $6 [4][22]. By state law, $1.00 of each certified copy fee goes to the Children's Trust Fund. If no birth record is found, MSDH issues a Not-On-File certification and still charges the fee [23].
- In person (statewide office): 222 Marketridge Drive, Ridgeland, Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed state holidays [4][24]. MSDH says you get a birth certificate the same day unless a search is needed; death and marriage copies are mailed within 7–10 business days [4]. MSDH's birth certificate page says to bring photo ID [23].
- Paying in person (MSDH pages differ): MSDH's Q&A says it takes cash, a bank or post office money order, a cashier's check or a credit card in person, and that personal checks aren't accepted [4]. Its death and marriage record pages say you may pay by "cash, check, money order, or credit card/debit card" [24][25]. Bring something other than a personal check, or call MSDH at 601‑206‑8200 to confirm [22].
- By mail (statewide): Mississippi Vital Records, P.O. Box 1700, Jackson, MS 39215-1700, with a bank cashier's check or a bank or postal money order payable to Mississippi Vital Records, plus a copy of photo ID; no cash or personal checks [23].
- By phone or online (statewide): through a private service (VitalChek) by credit card, for an extra fee [22][4]. MSDH lists two numbers: its birth certificate page says to call 601‑206‑8200 [22], and its Q&A says 1-877-295-4229 [4].
- For a passport (statewide): MSDH says its certificates are long-form, have a raised seal and can be used to get a passport; it no longer issues short-form birth certificates [4].
- Divorce (statewide): MSDH doesn't keep divorce records. It offers a $17 five-year divorce index search to find the county; the certified decree comes from that county's Chancery Clerk [4].
Marriage licenses
- Marriage record copies (statewide): MSDH has marriage records for January 1, 1926 to June 30, 1938, and January 1, 1942 to the present; it says not every marriage is on file, and otherwise to contact the Circuit Clerk in the county of issue [25]. For July 1938 through December 1941, only the Circuit Clerk in the county that issued the license has the record [4].
- Forrest County Circuit Clerk: 630 Main Street, (601) 582-3213 [6]. We didn't find marriage license fees or hours on the county's site; the Circuit Clerk page we tried returned "Page not found." Call the clerk.
- Lamar County Circuit Clerk (Purvis): apply together at 203 Main Street, Purvis, (601) 794-8504, Monday–Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fee is $36.00, cash or credit only. Bring one ID, such as a driver's license or certified birth certificate, and the date your last marriage ended if either of you has been married. The license is issued the same day if you have everything; if you apply after 4 p.m., you pick it up the next day [7].
Recorded documents and court records
- Forrest County Chancery Clerk: records and preserves land records at 641 Main St.; the recording and child support line is (601) 545-6015 [2]. Its online index isn't the official index; the official one is at the courthouse. Copies bought online by credit card carry a 3.5% service fee ($2.00 minimum) and are final [18].
- Recording fees: sources disagree on whether Forrest and Lamar collect the archive fee. Forrest County's posted fee sheet (a scanned image; we read it by eye) lists $26.00 for the first five pages in archive-fee counties and $25.00 elsewhere, plus $1.00 a page after five. It names only eight counties that don't collect the archive fee, and Forrest and Lamar aren't among them, which would make the fee $26.00 [12]. The statewide schedule on the Harrison County Chancery Clerk's site instead lists the counties that do collect it, and Forrest and Lamar aren't on that list, which would make it $25.00 [26]. Confirm with the clerk before you send a check.
- Copies (statewide schedule): $0.50 a page made by the clerk, $0.25 a page if you make them yourself, and $1.00 to certify a complete document [12][26].
- Court records: the Forrest County Circuit Clerk keeps the circuit court docket and minute records [6]. We didn't find copy fees for court records.
Apostilles (statewide)
- Fee and rules (statewide): the Mississippi Secretary of State charges $5.00 a document. The document must be notarized by a Mississippi notary or signed by a Mississippi public official; send originals, with a check or money order payable to Secretary of State [17]. The Secretary of State also says a notary who doesn't work for the issuing agency may not certify a copy of a government document such as a birth certificate [17].
- Where to send it (statewide): by mail to Secretary of State, P.O. Box 136, Jackson, MS 39205-0136, Attention: Notary / Apostille / Authentication, with Form 11 [27]. For FedEx or UPS the street address is 660 North Street, Jackson, MS 39202; include a prepaid return envelope, or documents come back by regular mail [17]. Questions: Notary Division, 601-359-1615 [17]. We didn't find walk-in hours or a processing time on that page.
More on certified copies: how to get a certified copy.
Money orders
USPS money order fees are national: $2.65 for $0.01 to $500.00, and $3.75 for $500.01 to $1,000.00. Pay with cash or a debit card, not a credit card. The limit is $1,000 per domestic money order [28]. Other sellers: money order guide.

- Free events: we didn't find an upcoming official free shred day in Hattiesburg.
- The UPS Store: its Hattiesburg page lists shredding [10]. We didn't find prices.
For paid per-pound shredding, see where to shred documents.
