Fresno, California document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Fresno, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Fresno County Public Library
- Prints and copies: self-made computer printouts are $0.10 a page in black and white and $0.50 in color; self-serve photocopies are $0.10 a page, and staff-made copies from microform are $1.00 a page. The same fees apply if you bring your own paper [10].
- Mobile printing: branch pages link to the library's mobile printing service, which lets you send a print job from your phone or computer to a branch printer [14][15].
- Scanning: the self-service kiosk scan is free to your own USB drive or email; a CD is $2.00. Staff scanning of Heritage Center materials is $1.00 per item up to 10 pages, only at the Central Library [10], which is closed for renovation [1].
- Fax: $1.00 for the first page plus $0.30 for each additional page, with no charge for the cover sheet; the library says to check each branch page to see whether fax is offered [10]. The Gillis and Woodward Park branch pages list fax, outgoing only (incoming faxes aren't accepted) [14][15].
- Branches: Gillis, 629 W. Dakota Ave., (559) 600-9915 [14]; Woodward Park Regional, 944 E. Perrin Ave., (559) 600-3135 [15]; Fig Garden Regional, 3071 W. Bullard Ave., (559) 600-4071, which lists printing, copying and a free scanning kiosk [16]. The library names West Fresno, Mosqueda, Gillis, Betty Rodriguez Regional, Sunnyside Regional and Easton as branches near the closed Central Library [1].
- The UPS Store: it lists 7 locations in Fresno: 373 E Shaw, (559) 225-6153; 2037 W Bullard Ave, (559) 432-5011; 7726 N 1st St, (559) 261-2600; 1134 E Champlain Dr, Ste. 101, (559) 412-7757; 700 Van Ness Ave, Ste. 120, (559) 272-0600; 6569 N Riverside Dr, Ste. 102, (559) 275-4800; and 6061 E Kings Canyon Rd, (559) 325-4877. Its city page says they offer packing, shipping, printing, shredding, notarizing, faxing and mailbox services [17]. We didn't find prices on the store pages.

Notary in Fresno
- Fresno County Clerk: notarizes signatures by appointment for $15 per signature, paid by check, credit or debit card, cash or money order ($100 bills aren't accepted). Bring government-issued photo ID and complete documents; staff can't give legal advice [4].
- Library: we didn't find notary service on the Fresno County Public Library pages we checked.
- The UPS Store: its Fresno page lists notarizing [17]. We didn't find store notary prices; California's legal maximum is below.
- Fees now (statewide): California Government Code § 8211 caps notary fees at $15 for each signature on an acknowledgment and $15 for an oath or affirmation with a jurat; certifying a copy of a power of attorney is also $15 [12]. The Secretary of State's January 2026 Notary Public Handbook lists the same maximums and says a notary may charge less or nothing [18]. Notarizing vote-by-mail ballot envelopes, and a veteran's application or claim for benefits, is free [12].
- Scheduled change (statewide): AB 1597 (Chapter 39, Statutes of 2026), approved by the Governor on June 30, 2026, amends § 8211 to raise those caps to $20 [13]. The bill text doesn't print a start date; under the state constitution, a statute enacted at a regular session takes effect on January 1 after a 90-day period from enactment [19], which for this bill is Jan. 1, 2027. The published code section still shows $15 [12].
- Extras and remote notarization (statewide): the handbook says any travel fee should be entered separately in the notary's journal; it sets no travel amount [18]. California notaries can't yet perform remote online notarizations: those parts of the Online Notarization Act start once the Secretary of State finishes its system, or by Jan. 1, 2030, whichever is earlier [18].

- County copies: county recorders also issue certified copies; the county office for this city is below. County prices can differ from the state's.

- Fees: $31 per birth certificate, $26 per death certificate and $19 per public marriage certificate. The same amounts are charged to search when no certified copy is made [6][5].

Marriage licenses and confidential marriages: Fresno County Clerk
- Fees: $58 for a public license and $69 for a confidential license; a civil ceremony at the Clerk's office is $21. Pay by cash or credit or debit card; checks and $100 bills aren't accepted [2].
- How: licenses and ceremonies are by appointment only, booked online. Both people must appear with a physical government-issued photo ID, and the license is issued the same day. The ceremony must take place within 90 days. A confidential license requires that you live together [2].
- Copies: the Clerk doesn't sell public marriage certificates; get those from the Recorder for $19. Confidential marriage certificates come from the Clerk for $19 a copy, only to the couple or by court order [2].
Court records: California superior courts (statewide fees)
- Fees (statewide): under Government Code § 70627, the court clerk charges $0.50 a page to prepare copies of a record on file, $1 a page to compare a copy you bring with the original (plus the certificate fee), and $15 for a records search that takes a court employee more than 10 minutes [25].

- Criminal case record fees: the court's notice lists $0.50 a page and $40.00 to certify a copy; it says this doesn't apply to civil case types [26].
- Other local fees: we didn't find a separate local fee list for civil, family or probate copies on the court pages we checked; the statewide fees above apply.
Apostilles (statewide)
- Who: California apostilles come from the Secretary of State, not the county. The document must be signed by a California public official or be an original notarized or certified document; photocopies aren't accepted [9]. The office doesn't notarize, so get the notarization first [27].
- Birth and death certificates: a certificate signed by a local health officer or registrar may first need certifying by the county clerk, or you can get a certified copy from the county recorder or CDPH [27].
- Fee: $20.00 per apostille. Include a cover sheet naming the country where the document will be used. In person there is also a $6.00 special handling fee for each different public official's signature [9].
- In person, same day: Sacramento, 1500 11th Street, 3rd Floor (card, check, money order or cash), or Los Angeles, 300 South Spring Street, Room 12513, with no appointments (card, check or money order; no cash). The Los Angeles office says it is temporarily serving customers on the 1st floor in Suite 1215 because of an elevator outage [9].
- By mail: Sacramento only, with a $20.00 check or money order per apostille payable to Secretary of State and a self-addressed return envelope. USPS mail goes to Notary Public Section, P.O. Box 942877, Sacramento, CA 94277-0001; FedEx, UPS or DHL to 1500 11th Street, 2nd Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814. Mail requests aren't expedited [9]. The office also runs pop-up apostille events around the state[9]. See the apostille guide.
- Local signature authentication: the Fresno County Clerk authenticates the signature of a notary registered in Fresno County, or of the Fresno County Health Officer, for $2.25 per document, in person by appointment or by mail to 2221 Kern St., Fresno, CA 93721 [28].
- Local pop-up: we didn't find an apostille pop-up scheduled in Fresno on the official pages we could open.
More on certified copies: how to get a certified copy.
