Fort Wayne, Indiana document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Fort Wayne, Indiana, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Allen County Public Library
- Printing: print from any public computer for 10 cents per side, on library paper only. Wi-Fi printing works from any device on the library network with a web browser [2].
- Copying: color and black-and-white copies at all locations; the page lists 10 cents per side [2].
- Fax: send faxes from all 14 locations for $1.75 for the first page and $1 for each additional page. A credit or debit card is required, and the machine takes only single-sided, letter-size pages [2].
- Where: the Main Library is at 900 Library Plaza [2]. The Census Geocoder didn't match that address [8].
- The UPS Store: it lists 2 locations in Fort Wayne, at 5651 Coventry Lane and 10536 Maysville Rd. Its city page says its stores offer packing, shipping, printing, shredding, notarizing, faxing and mailbox services [9]. We didn't find prices: the Coventry Lane store page doesn't list any [10], and The UPS Store's site says products, services, prices and hours may vary by location [11]. The Census Geocoder places both in Fort Wayne city [8].

Notary in Fort Wayne
- Allen County Public Library: we didn't find a notary service on the library pages we read [2].

Fees for other acts are negotiable. A notary who charges must display a list of fees in advance. A travel fee is allowed up to the federal GSA travel rate. Public officials and their deputies may not charge for notarial acts done as part of official business [13].
- Remote notarization (statewide law): a remote notary may charge "not more than twenty-five dollars ($25) for each remote notarial act" [13].

- County fees: $20 per certified birth certificate and $20 per certified death certificate; a non-certified death certificate is $3 [3].
- State fees, side by side: the Indiana Department of Health lists $10.00 for a birth certificate and $8.00 for a death certificate (statewide) [4]. The county and the state list different prices; check with the office you order from.

- By mail or online: mail a signed form, a copy of your ID and payment to Vital Records Division, 200 E. Berry St., Suite 360; allow 7 to 10 business days. VitalChek takes online orders for an extra fee [3].
- ID and eligibility: bring a valid driver's license, state ID or passport. You need a direct and tangible interest in the record, and the department issues certificates only for births and deaths in Allen County. Questions: 260.449.7147 [3].
Birth and death certificates (statewide)
- State fees (statewide): the Indiana Department of Health charges $10.00 for a birth certificate and $4.00 for each extra copy in the same order, and $8.00 for a death certificate and $4.00 for each extra copy. Fees aren't refunded and don't include third-party fees for online or phone orders [4]. Local health departments set their own fees; see the county fees above.
- In person (statewide): the state office has no walk-in service. To buy a certificate in person, go to the local health department in the county where the birth or death happened [4][16].
- By mail, online or by phone from the state (statewide): mail State Form 49607 (birth) or 49606 (death) with a check or money order payable to the Indiana Department of Health (no cash). Online orders go through VitalChek, and phone orders through (866) 601-0891, with third-party fees [4].
- Processing times (statewide): the state lists 2–3 weeks for a standard birth certificate, 6–8 weeks for a long-form birth certificate and 60 days for a death certificate [4]. Its home page says to allow 2 weeks for an order to reach the office and 10–15 business days to process it [16]. The long-form birth certificate is only available from the state [17].
- Who can order (statewide): you need a direct interest, a documented financial or legal interest, or a close family tie (parent, adult sibling or grandparent) to the person named on the record [17].
Marriage licenses (Allen County Clerk)
- Marriage licenses (statewide): in Indiana, the county clerk issues marriage licenses. Both of you apply in person at the clerk's office in an Indiana county where one of you lives; couples from out of state apply in the county where they will marry. The fee is $25.00 if one or both of you live in Indiana and $65.00 if neither does. Some offices add a $4.00 document fee, and each certified copy is $4.00. Most counties require cash. The license is valid for 60 days, and you can marry the same day. You'll need ID and your Social Security number [7].
- Copies (statewide): certified copies of marriage licenses come from the clerk of the county where the license was issued, not from the state health department [18].
- Allen County Clerk: you can start online, but both of you must finish in person at the Central Services Division, Room 201, Allen County Courthouse, 715 S. Calhoun St., 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday–Friday. Allow at least 30 minutes. The fee is $25.00 for Indiana residents and $65.00 for out-of-state residents. The license expires 60 days after it's issued [5]. We didn't find which payment methods the clerk takes for marriage licenses.
- Who can apply here: Indiana couples need at least one applicant living in Allen County, with proof of residency. Out-of-state couples can apply only if they marry in Allen County [5].
- Courthouse rule: phones, cameras and other electronic devices are banned from the courthouse, and the Sheriff may confiscate and destroy them [19].
- Copies: a certified copy costs an additional $4.00 [5]. The clerk's copy fees are $1.00 a page plus $3.00 per document for certification; request online, by email or by mail, and pay by check or money order payable to "Clerk of Allen Circuit Court" with a self-addressed stamped envelope. Fees may vary for licenses recorded before 1980 [20].
Recorded documents (Allen County Recorder)
- Recording fees: the fee schedule on the Recorder's site lists $55.00 for mortgages, $25.00 for all other documents (including one oversize page) and $25.00 for UCCs. It's titled "Indiana County Recorder's Fee Schedule" and dated 2023 in its file name [21].
- Copies: $1.00 a page (11 by 17 inches or smaller), $5.00 a page if larger, and $5.00 to certify [21]. Certified copies are available in the office or by mail [22].
- How to record: in person in Room 100 of the Rousseau Centre, 1 E. Main St., 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday–Friday (cash, checks except counter checks, or card), by mail to the same address, or through an e-recording vendor. Property transfers also need stamps from the Allen County Assessor and Auditor [23].
- Format: documents need a notary for each signature, and documents notarized in Indiana need a preparer's statement and a Social Security number redaction statement [12].
Court records (Allen County Clerk)
- Copy fees: $1.00 a page plus $3.00 per document for certification. Request online, by email or by mail to the Central Services Division, Courthouse Room 201; pay by check or money order. Questions: (260) 449-7890 [20].
Apostilles and authentications (statewide)
- Fee (statewide): $2.00 per document from the Indiana Secretary of State. There's no fee for birth and death certificates, adoption documents, or student transcripts and diplomas [24][13]. Pay in person by credit, debit, check or money order, or by mail with a check or money order [24].
- One certificate (statewide): since July 1, 2022, Indiana uses a single certificate format and no longer tells apostilles and authentications apart. The certificates can't be used inside the United States [24].
- What it can authenticate (statewide): Indiana vital records only; marriage, divorce, death and birth certificates don't need notarization, but other documents do. A marriage license must first be certified by the current circuit court clerk of the county where the marriage took place. Federal documents go to the U.S. Department of State [24].
- Where (statewide): there's one office, at 302 W. Washington St., Room E-018, Indianapolis, IN 46204, with no branches. With an appointment it processes up to 10 documents while you wait; without one, up to 5. Phone (317) 234-9768 [24].
- Fort Wayne note: the Secretary of State's only authentication office is in Indianapolis [24]. For an Allen County marriage license, get the copy certified by the Allen County Clerk first (statewide rule: certification by the circuit court clerk of the county where the marriage took place) [24][20].
