Bozeman, Montana document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Bozeman, Montana, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Bozeman Public Library
- Printing: 10¢ per side for black-and-white and 50¢ per side for color. Library card holders get $20 in free printing each month; card payments have a $5 minimum [18].
- Copies: letter and legal size are 10¢ a page black-and-white and 50¢ color; ledger (11" x 17") is 20¢ black-and-white and $1.00 color. Copiers take $1 and $5 bills [18].
- Scanning: free for public use [18].
- Fax: the second-floor flatbed scanner can send faxes but won't receive them. We didn't find a fax price [18].
- Address: 626 E. Main St., Bozeman, MT 59715 [18].
The UPS Store
The UPS Store lists one Bozeman store, #2007 at 1627 W Main St, Bozeman, MT 59715, (406) 585-8000. Its page offers printing, shipping, shredding and mailbox services; store hours are "Open 7 Days" and notary hours "Available 7 Days" [8][9]. We didn't find its prices.
See printing prices and fax prices.
Notary in Bozeman
- Clerk of District Court: the office in the Gallatin County Justice Center notarizes documents "for a fee of $2 each." There's no fee for documents being filed in a District Court case. Bring a driver's license or state ID and the unsigned document [3].
- The UPS Store: the Bozeman store lists notary hours "Available 7 Days" [9]. We didn't find its notary price.
- Fees (statewide): Montana law lets a notary "charge a fee not to exceed $10 for each notarial act," such as an acknowledgment, a signature witnessing or a jurat. A notary may add a travel fee (no more than the IRS standard mileage rate) or a fee for an electronic or remote notarization only if the notary explains it's extra and not set by law and you agree to the amount in advance. A notary who charges fees must display a list of them in English [5]. That's the same $10 cap as Wyoming and Arizona and double North Dakota's $5.
Passports in Bozeman
The U.S. Department of State's Passport Acceptance Facility Locator data lists two Bozeman facilities [7]:
| Facility | Address and phone | Passport hours (locator) | Photos |

- Post office fees (national): a $35.00 acceptance fee and a $15.00 photo fee "if needed" [11].

Birth, death, marriage, court and recorded-document copies
Birth and death certificates: Gallatin County Clerk and Recorder
- Fees: $8 per copy of a birth certificate and $7 per copy of a death certificate [1].
- By mail: send the request form, a copy of both sides of your photo ID and the fee in U.S. funds by cash, check or money order [1].
- Online: the county links an online application paid by credit card. Expedited delivery by UPS costs extra [1].
- Who can order a birth certificate: the registrant (14 or older), a spouse, children, parents, grandparents, a caretaker relative, a guardian, an authorized representative, or someone who documents a need to protect personal or property rights. Proof of relationship or authorization is required. Step-relatives, in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, ex-spouses and foster parents aren't eligible [1].
Birth and death certificates (statewide)
- Any county office (statewide): you can buy a Montana birth or death certificate in person at any county Clerk & Recorder's office in Montana, no matter which county the event happened in. Bring a current photo ID; you fill out the application there. A long-form birth certificate (often needed for dual citizenship or tribal enrollment) comes only from the state office in Helena or the Clerk & Recorder in the county of birth [6].
- County price (statewide law): state law sets the county clerk's fee at $8 for each certified copy of a birth certificate and $7 for each certified copy of a death certificate [14].
- State price: the Office of Vital Records charges $16 for every certificate, birth or death, certified or informational, abstract or long form [6][13]. Its fee schedule took effect Sept. 21, 2024 [13].
- State office (Helena): order by mail to Montana Vital Records, PO Box 4210, Helena, MT 59604, with a check or money order and a copy of your ID or a notarized application; online or by phone through VitalChek (1-888-877-1946) or VRO, which add card service fees. The office is closed to walk-ins. Questions: (406) 444-2685, option 2, or HHSVitalRecords@mt.gov [6].
- Late-October outage: the state notice says no Montana office issued birth certificates Oct. 21–25, 2026, during a move to a new records platform, and statewide issuance resumed Monday, Oct. 26 [13].
Marriage licenses: Gallatin County Clerk of District Court
- Where and when: Gallatin County Justice Center, 515 S 16th Avenue, Room 1041, Bozeman, MT 59715. Mon–Fri 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; arrive by 4:30 p.m. No appointment is needed [2].
- Steps: complete the online application first, then both of you appear together. If one can't come, that person signs their part before a Clerk of District Court where they are [2].
- Fee and ID: $53 in cash or by debit or credit card; checks aren't accepted. Bring proof of age: a valid driver's license, government ID card, birth certificate or valid passport [2].
- Validity: issued the same day and valid for 180 days anywhere in Montana. Return it to the clerk within 30 days after the ceremony [2].
- Copies: $5 for a regular copy and $7 for a certified copy, in person, by written request with a self-addressed stamped envelope, or by email to GallatinDCRecords@mt.gov [2].
- License fee (statewide law): $53 when one or both of you are present at the ceremony, or $83 when neither is (a double proxy) [15]. Marriage licenses come from the Clerk of District Court in Montana, not the Clerk & Recorder.
- Proof of age (statewide law): each applicant must provide a birth certificate or other satisfactory evidence of age [16].
Recorded documents: Gallatin County Clerk and Recorder
- Recording: $20 for the first page and $10 for each additional page, as of Oct. 1, 2025 [1].
- Search: the county moved its document search to Records Public Access on July 23, 2026 [1].
- Copies (statewide law): county clerk copy fees are 50 cents for the first page of a document and 25 cents for each later page, plus $2 for each certification with seal [14].
Court records: Clerk of District Court
- Fees (statewide law): the clerk of district court charges $1 a page for the first 10 pages of copies from a file, for each request, and 50 cents for each additional page; 25 cents a page for copies sent by fax, email or other electronic means; $2 for each certificate with seal; $5 for a copy of a marriage license and $10 for a copy of a dissolution decree. A records search is $2 per name for each year, for up to 7 years, and $1 per name for each further year [15].
Apostilles (statewide)
Montana apostilles come from the Secretary of State in Helena, not the county. For a Montana birth or death certificate, note on your Vital Records application that it's for an apostille (you'll get a long form), and contact the Secretary of State's office to tell it the document is coming. Pay the Secretary of State $10.00 per apostille, separately from the Vital Records fee [4]. Vital Records will mail the certificate to the Secretary of State once it's issued; the Secretary of State's office is at (406) 444-1877 [6]. The Secretary of State charges $10 per document or notarization, regardless of the number of pages. You can submit online through its portal and pay by credit or debit card, or by mail or in person with its printed Certification Request Form and a check or money order; it can't accept cash. Normal processing is 3–5 business days from receipt, and we didn't find an expedite fee. Mail goes to the Notary & Certifications Division, PO Box 202801, Helena, MT 59620-2801; drop-offs go to Room 260 of the State Capitol. A free pre-check is available by email at sosnotary@mt.gov [19]. See the apostille guide.

Money orders
USPS money order fees are national: $2.65 for $0.01 to $500.00, and $3.75 for $500.01 to $1,000.00. Pay with cash or a debit card, not a credit card. The limit is $1,000 per domestic money order [17]. Other sellers: money order guide.
