Aurora, Illinois document errands: printing, fax, notary, passports and certified copies (2026)
Where to print, fax, notarize, apply for a passport and get certified copies in Aurora, Illinois, using only official and provider pages. Each fact links to its source. Some facts are statewide or national rather than local. We label those.
Printing, copying, scanning and fax
Aurora Public Library District (APLD)
- Printing: $0.10 a page black and white and $0.50 a page color; each side of a sheet counts as one page. You can pay with cash or a credit or debit card. A card scan shows a $30.00 balance, the most for one transaction, but you're charged only for what you print [1][2]. Only library paper can be used, in letter and legal sizes [1].
- Print from your phone or laptop: email files to bw-aurorapl@eprintitsaas.com (black and white) or color-aurorapl@eprintitsaas.com (color), or upload them on APLD's ePrintIT page, then release the job at the copier. You can also email print jobs to printrequests@aurorapubliclibrary.org for drive-through or curbside pickup; name your pickup location and allow at least two hours [1].
- Scanning and fax: APLD says scanning and faxing are free. You can scan to a USB drive, phone, email, OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox [1][2]. We didn't find whether long-distance or international faxes are included.
- Lamination: $1 at the Santori Library circulation desk [1].
- The UPS Store: it lists 3 locations with Aurora addresses: 2948 Kirk Rd, Ste 106, (630) 898-4300; 3015 E New York St, Ste A2, (630) 851-6611; and 2112 W Galena Blvd, Ste 8, (630) 844-0133. Its city page says its stores offer packing, shipping, printing, shredding, notarizing, faxing and mailbox services [10]. We didn't find prices on the store pages; The UPS Store's site says products, services, prices and hours may vary by location [11].
- Which side of the county line: the Census Geocoder places 3015 E New York St in Aurora city in DuPage County and 2112 W Galena Blvd in Aurora city in Kane County. It didn't match 2948 Kirk Rd [10][5].

Notary in Aurora
- Aurora Public Library District: free notary service by appointment only, at every APLD location; same-day and walk-in appointments aren't available right now. Service is in English at all locations and in Spanish at Santori and West Branch. Book online or call 630-264-4117 [3].
- Before your library appointment: don't sign until the notary is present, bring a valid government-issued photo ID and the whole document, and bring every signer. If you need a witness, bring one; library staff and customers can't act as witnesses. APLD notarizes up to 10 pages per appointment, can't choose a notarial certificate for you, and can't notarize vital records such as birth, death or marriage certificates [3].
- The UPS Store: its Aurora page lists notarizing [10].
- Fees (statewide law): the Illinois Notary Public Act caps the fee for a non-electronic notarial act at $5, and allows up to $25 for an electronic notarial act. The current text took effect Jan. 1, 2026 [12]. Ask for the price before the notary starts.
- Secretary of State notary pages: we couldn't read the Illinois Secretary of State's notary pages on Oct 31, 2026; the site didn't respond to our checks.

Birth, death, marriage, court and recorded-document copies
Birth and death records (statewide rules)
- Who issues them (statewide): the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Division of Vital Records in Springfield issues birth and death certificates, and it says you may also contact the county clerk where the event occurred [9][15].
- IDPH birth certificate fees (statewide): $15 or $10 for the first certified copy, depending on the version, and $2 for each additional copy of the same certificate ordered at the same time. A genealogical copy is $10 [9][16], and a commemorative birth certificate is $40 [16].
- Which version costs what (IDPH pages differ): IDPH's birth certificate page says $15 gets the information collected at the time of birth, and $10 gets a set list of items (name, date and place of birth, parents' details, file date and state file number) [9]. IDPH's fee schedule calls the $15 version the long form, a full copy of the original record, and the $10 version the short form, a computer-generated abstract, but it places the item list beside the $15 version [16]. Ask IDPH or the county clerk which version you need before you order.
- IDPH death certificate fees (statewide): $19 for a full certified copy and $4 for each additional copy [15][16].
- IDPH by mail: Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Vital Records, 110 W Lawrence Ave., Springfield, IL 62704-2610; pay by check or money order payable to IDPH [9]. IDPH says mail requests take about 12 weeks from when it gets your paperwork. For urgent needs, it says to send the request by overnight delivery with proof of immediate need and a prepaid overnight return envelope; certified copies are then processed in 5 to 7 business days [15].
- IDPH online: through VitalChek, with a major credit card. On the death certificate page IDPH lists a $15.00 handling fee, plus $22.00 if you choose UPS delivery [15].
- Office move (past): IDPH's Springfield office at 925 East Ridgley Avenue closed, and the new office at 110 W Lawrence Avenue opened on September 14, 2026 [15].
Kane County Clerk (events in Kane County)

Death certificates are $20, and $10 for each additional copy [17]. Marriage certificates are $16, and $6 for each additional copy; they aren't sent to couples automatically [18].

They're open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., 630-232-5950. Bring photo ID, and pay by cash, check, money order or card; cards add a $2.50 service fee [6]. Death certificates also need proof of relationship or a personal or property right interest, except for genealogy requests [17].
- By mail: Kane County Clerk, John A. Cunningham Vital Records, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Bldg. B, Geneva, IL 60134, with the request form, a photocopy of your photo ID and a check or money order payable to the Kane County Clerk [6].

Marriage licenses
- Marriage records (statewide): IDPH doesn't issue certified copies of marriage records; they come from the county clerk in the county where the marriage happened. IDPH can verify the facts of a marriage from 1962 on for $5 [19].
- When a license is valid (statewide law): Illinois law says a marriage license becomes effective in the county where it was issued one day after it is issued, unless a court orders otherwise, and expires 60 days after it becomes effective [20].
- Kane County Clerk: the license is $32, cash only. It's issued while you wait, is effective only in Kane County, takes effect the next calendar day and is valid for 60 days. Both of you appear together at the Geneva, Aurora or Elgin office with ID showing proof of age. Applications can take up to 30 minutes, so arrive by 4 p.m. (7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays) [7].
- Online start: you can pre-register online if you plan to come in within 2 weeks [7].
- Ceremony outside Kane County: because a Kane license is effective only in Kane County [7], couples marrying in the DuPage, Kendall or Will part of Aurora should ask that county's clerk.

- Kane County Recorder, recording: under the price schedule effective October 1, 2024 (past), a standard real-estate-related document is $99.00 and a non-real-estate-related document is $80.00. Non-conforming documents (for example, more than 5 parcel numbers) are $121.00. Recording a DD-214 military discharge is free when brought in by the veteran, family or a VA representative, and includes 4 certified copies [21]. The Recorder is at 719 S. Batavia Ave., Bldg. C, Geneva, 630-232-5935 [21].
- Kane County Recorder, copies: photocopies are $1.00 a page [21]. The schedule's layout doesn't make the certified-copy price clear, so we didn't list it; ask the Recorder.
- Kane County Circuit Clerk: copies are $2.00 for the first page, $0.50 a page for pages 2–20 and $0.25 a page from page 21. Certifying a non-judgment document is $6.00; a small-claims or eviction judgment is $6.00, and other judgments are $10.00. A record search is $6.00 for each year or name searched, and the mailing fee is $10.00 plus postage. This schedule took effect September 1, 2026 (past) [22].
- Where to get court copies: view files and buy copies at 540 S. Randall Rd., St. Charles, Monday–Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 630-232-3413, or email Research@kanecountyil.gov. The research fee is charged in advance if the case isn't in the system [23].
Apostilles (statewide)
- Fee (statewide law): Illinois law sets the Secretary of State's fee for a certificate or apostille, with seal, at $2 [24].
- Rules (statewide law): requests go on the Secretary of State's form with the fee. The office may refuse a document that isn't an original, isn't properly certified or notarized, or is meant for use in the U.S. or in a country that isn't part of the Hague Convention [25].
- Where and how long: we couldn't read the Illinois Secretary of State's apostille pages on Oct 31, 2026; the site didn't respond to our checks. Confirm addresses, hours and processing times with the Secretary of State before you send documents.
